So here we have this highly gifted (and sensitive) black guy. In the 30-ies and 40-ies. In a world of white men. Hearing all the new modern "classical" composers. But still holding on to his jazz. Any wonder he got into trouble? (looked down upon by whites, not understood by his own people.)
