Jesus was mad?

In Mark chapter 3 verse 21 it says "When his family heard this they went out to take charge of him. Because they said "He is out of his mind!" (in another translation "He has lost his senses". And in the King James bible "He is beside himself".) Why did they think so? Well he had just started his healing. Out among people! So his family (mother and brothers) thought he had gone mad?? He ought to have been thrown into the loony-bin?
In Luke chapter 4 verse 23 Jesus says: "You will probaly quote this proverb to me: "Physician, heal yourself!" (he was in a synagogue. The people there began to doubt him when they saw that he was the son of Josef, the carpenter.) What did he mean? He was known as a sick person? A lunatic maybe?
